César & Techniques Trophy 2018

The César & Techniques Trophy rewards a company in the technical film industry in France, for its ability to highlight an event or development strategy that is particularly synergistic with the film industry, or a particular contribution to film creation during the past year.

The winner

MIKROS IMAGE TECHNICOLOR and its Managing Director, Gilles Gaillard, were awarded the 2018 César & Techniques Trophy, following a vote by the 1,056 technicians eligible for one of the five 2018 Technical César and the 167 production and post-production managers of the films eligible for the 2018 César for Best Film.

AGM FACTORY

Created in 2004, AGM Factory offers complete image, sound and laboratory post-production.

Located until now in Rennes, AGM, opens a new site in Paris 19th in 2017.

COLOR is a service provider specialized in image post-production.

We focus on image processing with a premium service alongside our clients.

Each film being a different adventure, we adopt our workflow, our schedules and our follow-up from the tests to the deliverables. All this in the heart of Paris, in a cosy and calm atmosphere with a qualified, close-knit and very reactive team.

In 2017, we had the chance to support more than 25 feature films, 5 TV series and 75 commercials.

DIGITAL FACTORY

At the heart of the Cité du Cinéma, Digital Factory provides complete post-production of all audiovisual works, offering 3,000m² of warm and welcoming spaces (40 image and sound editing rooms, 3 colour grading rooms, 3 mixing auditoriums), high-performance equipment and an attentive ear for every need. From the processing of rushes to the delivery of all formats, Digital Factory is part of a work dynamic that guarantees an optimal rendering within the deadlines necessary for the success of the project.

ECLAIR COLOR

EclairColor is a major innovation for the film industry by revolutionising the way films are shown in cinemas. This new HDR (high dynamic range) solution combines an innovative mastering process developed by Eclair with the optimization of Barco and Sony Digital Cinema 4K projectors. EclairColor’s ambition is to provide an economical and affordable solution to all cinemas, including art house cinemas, through a very reasonable investment, while maintaining a very high level of quality. More than 120 cinemas are already equipped with EclairColor HDR and 58 films have been released to date in EclairColor HDR.

LE LABO PARIS

Labo Paris was created in October 2014 by Alain Carsoux, one of the leaders of VFX in Paris in cinema with his company C.G.E.V (Compagnie Générale des Effets Visuels), and Arnaud Borges, who, with Dum Dum Films, works on the editing of +/- 80 feature films per year.
After one year of work, we started the exploitation in October 2015, the activity goes from the treatment of the rushes, to the DCP, through conformation and grading.
We specialize in feature films. We processed one fifty feature films and two TV fiction series in 2017.
Our geographical location is ideal, we are located in the heart of Paris just a stone’s throw from the Grands-Boulevards. The Labo Paris building is shared with Dum Dum Films, which offers 40 image editing rooms that are very popular with editors and directors.
The Labo Paris team consists entirely of motivated and gifted technicians, gathered together for the creation of this new Parisian laboratory. The team is made up of about fifteen people.
We chose to calibrate on the Baselight system, the most efficient on the market.

MIKROS IMAGE TECHNICOLOR

Mikros Image, which belongs to the Technicolor group, is a Parisian studio that for 30 years has been developing a creative service offer for the national and international audiovisual market for the production of effects and digital image and sound processing.
Mikros, thanks to its talents and dedicated infrastructure (post-production, VFX, animation and advertising) has the capacity to respond to projects of varying degrees of complexity requiring artistic and original analysis and response.
For cinema, it is Mikros Technicolor, a union of forces between Mikros Image and TESF, which has the capacity to deliver the entire post-production of a feature film, from the management of the rushes to the delivery of the master, via the production of VFX.

Our ambition is to look at each project in a unique way in order to create with the director and the production a respectful working method where everyone can express their ambitions for the whole project.

PANAVISION ALGA

French leader in the rental of photographic equipment and machinery, and through its subsidiary Panalux, lighting equipment and trucks, Panavision Alga is :

– The widest offer on the market with an exclusive range of anamorphic, spherical and 70 mm optics.

– A capacity for technical adaptation and project-specific developments

– An extensive network of regional and international locations.

Voting process

The Technical Industries Committee makes a pre-selection of French technical services companies from among all those that have worked on at least one of the films eligible for the César for Best Film and have responded to the call for applications sent to them.
The winning company is then elected by all the technicians eligible for the five Technical Césars of the year as well as by the production and post-production directors of the films eligible for the César for Best Film.
Voting is carried out by secure electronic means, under the control of a bailiff, open at the end of December and closed at 7pm on the day of the César & Techniques Evening.

The committee

It pre-selects the French technical services companies that will compete for the César & Techniques Trophy or the Innovation Award, from among all those that have worked on at least one of the films eligible for the César for Best Film and that have responded to the calls for applications that have been sent to all of these companies.
