Roberto Berliner
Biography
Roberto Berliner is a producer and filmmaker from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He majored in Journalism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and started his career in the late 70s. He has directed two fiction features, “Julio is Gone” (2014) and “Nise – The Heart of Madness” (2016), that took 150,000 people to theaters and won more than 20 awards, such as Best Film and Best Actress at the Tokyo Intl. Film Festival. He is the director of several documentary features, such as “Ruckus at the Circus” (2014), “Herbert Up Close” (2011), “Pindorama – The True Story of the Seven Dwarves” (2008), and “Born to be Blind” (2004), in addition to the short films “Born to be blind” (1998) and “Tuning in the inner side” (2001), screened and awarded in festivals such as IDFA, Rio de Janeiro Intl. Film Festival, São Intl. Film Festival and É Tudo Verdade (It’s All True). For television, he directed the documentary series “Adoption Chronicles” (2016-2017), broadcast on GNT, “Street Sounds” (1997/2004) and “Free Jazz” (1996/97). Recently, he directed the documentary feature “The Quartet” (2020), selected for É Tudo Verdade (It’s All True), and a new season of the documentary series “Street Sounds” (2020), for Canal Curta!. In 1991, he founded the production company TvZero, where he directs and produces projects of his authorship and from renowned and new filmmakers, such as Gustavo Pizzi, Fellipe Barbosa, Victor Lopes, Daniel Gonçalves. Altogether, the production company’s films have been screened at over 200 festivals and have been awarded more than 80 times so far.
