Lü Yue

Biography

Lü Yue graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1982, kept on studying film production and theory at Paris 8 University. His collaboration with Zhang Yimou on Shanghai Triad brought him an international recognition in Cannes as cinematographer, receiving in 1995 the Grand Prix for the Best Cinematography and a nomination for the Oscars of the best cinematography. In 1998, he won the Golden Leopard Award in Locarno for his second feature film, Mr Zhao, before making his last feature film in 2006, 13 Princess Trees.
