Fanny Ovesen

Biography

Fanny Ovesen was born in 1990 is a Swedish filmmaker living in Norway. Before she started at the Norwegian Film School in 2015 she studied social sciences and film production in Sweden, and directed several short films.

At film school Fanny explored themes such as norms, structural power and privilege. In 2017 she co-wrote and co-directed the short film SMIL which has been screened at several international festivals in Europe. Her graduation film from film school, SHE-PACK, is based on the experiences of the team members’ youth and femininity. It premiered internationally at the Berlinale in 2019 and has won several awards since then, among them the national Amanda Award for Best Norwegian Short.

In September 2018 Fanny won the Nordic Talents pitch prize for her upcoming feature LAURA, and later got the Swedish Film Institute’s development support Wild Card to explore the same project audiovisually. Recently she was awarded the Anna prize – Sweden’s only feminist film grant – for the project’s relevance to the UN Women’s Convention.
