Benjamin Cleary

Biography

Benjamin Cleary is an Oscar winning writer and director from Dublin. In 2015 Benjamin wrote, directed and edited his short film Stutterer. The film played at over 100 festivals worldwide and has won 25 awards including the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short 2015, Best Short Film at the Young Directors Awards at Cannes, a London Critic’s Circle Award and an Irish Film and Television Award. Benjamin’s new short film Wave, featuring Jarvis Cocker, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in 2017. Wave has since played at over 60 top festivals around the world including the BFI, Melbourne, Aspen and Clermont Ferrand. It has won 17 awards to date including Best Short Film at Toronto Shorts, Galway, Leeds, Cork, Kerry, Aesthetica and the Irish Film and Television Award 2018.  He is currently developing his first feature which will be produced by Anonymous Content. He is also in production on a virtual reality animation called Glimpse with his company Mr Kite and he is working on a short content piece with Assembly for Amnesty International in support of freedom of speech.
