Alain Attal

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Thanks to the production of short films, Alain Attal has, since the early 2000s, gathered around him a team of talented young directors, actors and authors whom he then naturally accompanied for their first feature films: Gilles Lellouche and Tristan Aurouet, Guillaume Canet and Philippe Lefevbre.
These first feature film experiences allowed him to rapidly widen his circle of talents and to gain the loyalty of already confirmed directors such as Nicole Garcia, Radu Mihaileanu or Maïwenn whose film POLISSE won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011.
Continuing his collaboration with the historic directors of Les Productions du Trésor, Alain Attal has also produced, over the years, numerous debut films, thus contributing to the emergence of new talents such as Romain Lévy, Régis Roinsard, Jeanne Herry, Thomas Bidegain and Stéphanie Di Giusto, whom he will naturally accompany for their second opus.
During these years devoted to developing Les Productions du Trésor, now known as Trésor Films, Alain Attal has been very active in the profession, defending independent production and encouraging the development of a rich and quality French cinema. In 2007, he became vice-president of the APC, Association des Producteurs de Cinéma, then in 2013 and 2014, vice-president of the 2nd college of the CNC’s Advance on Receipts.
With more than 30 films produced to date, having amassed nearly 30 million admissions and won prestigious awards and selections at major festivals, Alain Attal continues to defend a certain vision of cinema: independent, demanding and popular.

The first films by Laurent Lafitte and Douglas Attal are currently in post-production at Trésor Films. Alain Attal will also produce this year the next opus of the adventures of Asterix.

A year later, he co-wrote and produced La Cage Dorée, a film by Ruben Alves. A box-office success, this film won the Audience Award at the Alpes d’Huez Festival and the European Film Awards 2013.

For television, Hugo produced the 3 seasons of Casting(s), the series of sketches directed by Pierre Niney and broadcast on Canal + during the Cannes Film Festival, as well as unreleased episodes for the Césars. Zazi Films then quickly established itself in the comedy genre.

His second feature film Demain Tout Commence avec Omar Sy is one of the biggest successes of 2016. The film gathered 3.2 million spectators in France and travelled all over the world, becoming the French-language film most seen abroad with more than 5 million admissions outside France. In 2017 and 2018 it won the Comédie Unifrance prize at the Alpe d’Huez Festival as well as two awards at the Trophées du Film Français: the trophy for the French film most seen internationally and the Audience Award.

Hugo is directing his third feature film, Mon Inconnue, a romantic comedy produced by Zazi Films and Mars Films. Released in theatres on April 3, 2019, this film has already won the Best Film Award at the Cabourg Festival and its lead actor, François Civil, won the Interpretation Award at the Alpe d’Huez Festival 2019.

Today, Hugo is developing many projects and is preparing to release on March 11th, Ruben Alves’ second film, Miss, already selected in official competition at the Alpe d’Huez Festival 2020.

The Ink Connection

Xavier Gens & Grégoire Gensollen

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Gens and Gensollen founded The Ink Connection in 2010 to produce original, strong and risky stories together. They are adept at complex international co-productions and like to take risks with new authors with atypical profiles, opening new perspectives on the world.

After a few short films, they produced their first feature film “Where Is Rocky II? (2016), a hybrid documentary with elements of fiction, directed by contemporary artist Pierre Bismuth (Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”). Then they produce the metaphorical genre film “Cold Skin” (2017) directed by Xavier Gens, then “Papicha” (2019) directed by Mounia Meddour, who represented Algeria at the Oscars in 2020 after its debut in official selection at Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.

Their professional backgrounds are very distinct and complementary. Gens is a director (“Frontier(s), Hitman, The Divide, Crucifixion, Cold Skin and the comedy Budapest, as well as the HBO series “Gangs of London”), while Gensollen is an executive expert in distribution, international sales, production and financing, who joined Tucker Tooley Entertainment as COO in 2016, after a decade at FilmNation and Lionsgate. Grégoire was recognized by Variety in their 2012 “Hollywood New Leaders” list.

Grégoire and Xavier were recognized by Variety in their list of “10 Producers to Watch” in 2019.

Then, she met Isild le Besco who entrusted her with the production direction of her feature film BAS FONDS. For a little over a year, she worked with Georges-Marc Benamou as head of feature film development. In 2011, she decides to set up her own structure Les Films du Bal, to be at the origin of projects with authors of her generation that she meets. In addition to the projects she develops as executive producer, she is also in charge of the executive production of two short films by Bertrand Bonello (WHERE ARE YOU BERTRAND BONELLO? and SARAH WINCHESTER, OPÉRA FANTOM).

Eve Robin

After graduating with a degree in cinema and law, and after training at Atelier Ludwigsburg Paris, specialising in international co-productions, Eve Robin first spent nearly 4 years at KIDAM, where she worked as a production manager, then as an executive producer, mainly on short films. Then, she returned to Les Films du Poisson where she worked on several feature films and TV unit successively as production manager, then executive producer. At the beginning of 2016, she joins forces with Judith Lou Lévy at Les Films du Bal.

Christophe Rossignon & Philip Boëffard

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

After a career as an engineer, Christophe Rossignon joined the LAZENNEC company in 1990, created by Alain Rocca and Adeline Lécallier. He produced 10 short films, including those by Mathieu Kassovitz and Tran Anh Hung, then became a partner in LAZENNEC and moved on to feature films, including La Haine by Mathieu Kassovitz and L’odeur de la papaye verte by Tran Ang Hung.
For his part, after studying engineering at the Ecole des Mines de Nancy, Philip Boëffard joined LAZENNEC in 1992, where he worked in management control and then with Bertrand Faivre in the short film department. He then spent five years in the world of finance and consulting at KPMG AUDIT.
In 1999, Christophe and Philip joined forces to create their production company, NORD-OUEST. From the very beginning, the editorial line of production is structured around strong and eclectic choices: various film genres, risk-taking, family and human comedies, historical frescoes, politically engaged films… Christophe and Philip are as faithful to their instincts as they are to their directors: Christian Carion, Philippe Lioret, Vincent Garenq and Michel Ocelot have become recurring figures in the NORTHWEST house, which nevertheless leaves the door open to other talents, such as Nils Tavernier, Safy Nebbou and Stéphane Brizé.
19 years later, NORD-OUEST has a filmography of more than forty films produced or co-produced, and has integrated a third associate producer, Pierre Guyard (Les Combattants, Ce sentiment de l’été, Ami-ami…). The company also has a documentary department, and is currently developing a TV branch (series and single films).

Stéphanie Schorter, Thierry Demaizière, Alban Teurlai

THIERRY DEMAIZIÈRE AND ALBAN TEURLAI’S BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

Thierry Demaizière began his career as a major reporter for RTL in 1985, during which he travelled to China, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iran and Israel. He was the only French radio journalist present in Baghdad during the first Gulf War. From 1997 onwards, Thierry Demaizière was given a daily interview on RTL, where he received personalities who made the news. Having become an interviewer-portraitist, his unique tone and sensitivity quickly became a real trademark: Thierry Demaizière “tells” his subjects as closely and accurately as possible, revealing them in all their complexity and richness. In 2001, Thierry Demaizière went from radio to television: until 2018, he produced the “Portrait” for the weekly programme Sept à Huit on TF1.

In 2004, he met Alban Teurlai, editor of numerous short films, music videos and commercials. Thierry Demaizière and Alban Teurlai began to co-direct documentaries for the biggest French broadcasters, from France Télévisions to Canal+. They define themselves as portraitists, making sensitive and elegant documentaries of celebrities: Karl Lagerfeld, Vincent Lindon, Fabrice Lucchini, Lilian Thuram and of unknown people: Couples, Troufions…

Their films are also distinguished by their formal dimension: these almost impressionistic portraits have an exceptional aesthetic signature, both in the image and the editing.  “Relève”, which retraces the adventure of Benjamin Millepied since his appointment as ballet director at the Paris Opera, will be an extraordinary critical success and will earn them a place in the official selection of the TRIBECA festival in 2016. Rocco”, a feature film to be released in France in 2017, will also be a critical success in France and abroad. Finally, Lourdes, to be released in France in May 2019, will be a real box office success in France with more than 240,000 admissions. They have been producing and directing a documentary series for Netflix for the past two years, and are currently in post-production of a feature-length documentary on Hip-Hop, La Section, scheduled for theatrical release at the end of 2020.

STÉPHANIE SCHORTER’S BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY

In 1993, Stéphanie Schorter joined the Arte channel. After this first experience, she left broadcasting to join Gilles de Maistre at Tétra Média where she produced numerous documentaries. In 2000 she joined Gilles de Maistre and Miguel Courtois with whom she created the company Mai Juin Productions. During these 8 years of association, she produced many documentaries including the feature film Le premier Cri, released in theatres in 2007.

In 2013, she is executive producer of the feature-length documentary film Sur le chemin de l’école. She will then co-produce the documentary series ”Les chemins de l’école”. In 2017, she also ensures the executive production of the film ”A l’ouest du Jourdain”, selected at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2017.

Since 2010, Stéphanie Schorter has been President of Falabracks, where she produces, among other films, Relève en 2015, Rocco en 2016, Lourdes, released in theatres on 8 May 2019, and for Netflix, a documentary series entitled “Move”, scheduled for release at the end of 2020.

In February 2018, she joined forces with Romain Icard, Thierry Demaizière and Alban Teurlai to create the company Tohubohu, of which she is president. There she produced the feature film La Section, in co-production with Falabracks, which is scheduled for theatrical release at the end of 2020.

His involvement in the media was confirmed by his entry into film production and distribution with his association with Claude Berri (1987) and his association with Rupert Murdoch to develop the first European satellite bouquet BSkyB (1990), of which he was Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1998 and 1999.

In 1990, Chargeurs acquired Pathé Cinéma . In 2002, Gaumont and Pathé’s cinema exhibition activities merged. Since then, Pathé’s business has continued to expand: Pathé has become one of Europe’s leading film companies, active in the various areas of film production (France, United Kingdom), film distribution (France, United Kingdom, Switzerland) and cinema exhibition (France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Tunisia). Pathé is also, alongside Jean-Michel Aulas, the second largest shareholder in Olympique Lyonnais.

Voting process

The competition is open to all producers and line producers of any feature film eligible for the César for Best Film that has been nominated at least once during the award year, either for the film itself or for a person who collaborated on the film.
The electoral college is composed of the fifty members of the Association for the Promotion of Cinema as well as all the artists and technicians who have been nominated for the César since 2008 (the year the award was created).
Voting takes place by secret ballot, by electronic voting under the supervision of a bailiff, closed at 9pm on the day of the Producers Dinner.
